Since I wont be able to make it this year i’ll be watching it from my computer imagining that I’m there – minus all the beer getting spilt on me, smelling like cig smoke, dealing with finding a place to crash… hmm maybe it’s not so bad…

Last season these guys put out How the Northwest Was One… if you missed that premier psh…well bummer for you. Tons of North-westerners came out to EVO here in Seattle to support the boys.

This season, they decided to go a different route (as I’m sure they will every season). Saturday Night Ride – I’m sure there will be some pretty sweet punches…err slashes…tonight on the big screen.

If you live/ride in So.Cal you know Big Bear. If you know Big Bear you know HDHR. Hot Dawgs and Hand Rails is the annual rail jam Bear puts on at the end of the summer to kick off the season. Pro Riders (invite only) from all over the states travel to Bear for a chance to win a small portion of a $15,000 prize purse. A few of my friends were also riding which is always fun – nothin like cherrin on your buddies while envy is dripping from your mouth.

I was stoked to find that this year I would actually be able to make it having missed the last four years. So I had no idea how this years setup really compared to previous. All I knew was that this years was SICK. It was pretty much a super legit street spot that I’m Sure Rob Dyrdek himself would be pumped on. Setup came complete with ledges, down hand rails, planter gap, and of course a gnarley wall ride/ rail.

Riders were definitley loving it and the creativity they were throwin down proved it.

1st Place goes to Nick Visconti, 2nd Place goes to Jake Kuzyk, and 3rd Place goes to Johnny Lazzereschi. The $5,000 Red Bull Best Trick goes to Mike Casanova, and Jess Kimura lands the $1,000 Red Bull Best Trick.

Along with awesome riding, two video’s are always premiered. This years People’s Cheers and Bear’s Mtn. Video Paint it Red were on the red carpet. Both highly entertaining and increased my urge of wanting to shred. I’ve included Bear’s Video here for your viewing pleasure with some pics from the handing out of the giant checks.

Instead of going to Europe, i’ve managed to give myself a lil beach vacay for a week and a half for free. How? you might ask? it’s called making friends in sweet ass places. aka. friends that don’t live in their parents basement and live off Totino’s Pizza Rolls.

well, with one exception, Shawn. She’s a fellow instructor from mammoth who lives literally a jump, skip , and a hop away from the beach…at her parents house… but since the house is like a fancy Dana Point beachside bed and breakfast and her Mom cooks us fucking steaks, roasts and everything else you could want in a hearty dinner – she is not considered lame. infact, since i get my own room, tv, and awesome view? She is considered awesome. I’ve spent the last week with her. meeting her awesome and hot lifeguard friends and burning my ass falling asleep on the beach. thank you Shawn.

Not wanting to wear out my welcome with her parents, they love me cuz i clean out all their leftovers in the fridge. I’ve since ventured north to Newport. Tyson, another fellow seasonal Mammoth kid, lives amazingly closer to the beach. Shawn had a 3 min walk. “how do you live closer?!” you might ask. well, I can see the waves and walk to the sand with my eyes closed and pretty much not get lost. I could prolly throw a rock and hit the sand. I’ll be here for a few days.

Sadly, I feel my beach time this summer will be remarkably cut short due to the fact that I wil not be living here this summer. duh. and also to the fact that i still do not have a car, i’m getting shit for money from unemployment, and i actually have to get a job to keep my sanity while living back at home for the 3-4 months of summer i have.

Theres been talk of going back up to seattle for the month of October, which would be fuckin sweet. but i’ve also been looking for flights to germany for the whole month of October. Being that Seattle is undoubtably more affordable – thats prolly where ill end up spending my halloween once again. and if so, my only question is…what will i be this year? i’m thinking unicorn…

OH! AND THE 4TH OF FUCKING JULY!

ANYWAYS – to keep the post interesting and not just me blabbing – here are some pics i’ve taken over the last week.

“Mammoth is a natural fit to host Superpark in the late Spring,” says Chris Engelsman, Publisher, SNOWBOARDER Magazine. “Their snowpack is optimum, the weather is fantastic, and their support of park riding is undeniable. We’ve spent six Superparks in Mammoth and couldn’t be more excited to go back and try to top what we saw there last year.”

SNOWBOARDER is also proud to welcome back Gatorade as the presenting sponsor. They were initiated into the Superpark tradition for the first time last year and are back for more from the world’s top snowboarding talent. “SNOWBOARDER is stoked to have Gatorade back again this year as well,” adds Engelsman. “With riders on-hill all day under the spring sun, hydration is key to keeping the session alive and with Gatorade on board no one ever goes thirsty.”

“Superpark is a great event that focuses on having fun and the athletes’ progression,” said Kenny Mitchell, action sports team manager for Gatorade. “Gatorade is happy to be on board with such a great event where we can help fuel riders as they push one another to ride hard in a laid back setting.”

For 2010 SNOWBOARDER has adopted an “Animal House” theme for Superpark dubbing it Animal Park. According to SNOWBOARDER’s editor Pat Bridges “The poster for ‘Animal House’ says it all ‘It was the Deltas against the rules… the rules lost.’ Snowboarding was founded by a bunch of dudes who went against the rules and, well you know the rest. Similarly, SNOWBOARDER started Superpark to create a venue where we didn’t need to follow any rules.” Expect 150 of the world’s best park riders to send it for four days straight as they pledge Tri Landa Air.

Myself and roommates don’t noooooormally follow such events so avidly, but seeing as a good friend of ours, Greg Bretz, was competeing…we had to make sure the baby boy had our support. After qualifying third to Vito and Lago, Greg sadly finished sixth. FUCKING STOKED. Not first but hey-how many of your friends competed…exactly. Nonetheless, all of us here in Mammoth are stoked for our boy and wish him nothing but the best of luck in comps to come.

It was really neat to see how Jeff affected the people around him, in his day to day and traveling life. The art was amazing. I had mentioned to a few friends that when I really started painting my first piece was a Volcom ad of Jeff Anderson and a few more of my pieces were of Jeff and influenced by his art.

It’s amazing what one person, in such a diverse industry, can do to influentially.

He is missed. He is loved. and HE IS snowboarding.

Oh, and I was at the art show the whole time so I missed the premier…but seeing as I know everyone in it…I’m sure i’ll eventually get it/see it.
