Losing my #1
Last week I received a Facebook invite to join a group : In Memory of Rachel Sharman.
My heart stopped and mind raced. Is this real? What happened? Is Rachel REALLY gone. When did this happen?
All these questions ran through my mind. I almost didn’t join because I thought it wasn’t serious. I clicked join and skimmed over the page looking for some sort of “what happened” and found nothing. Then Yesterday i finally got a hold of Caitlin.
Rachel was the sister of my best Canadian friend, Caitlin. Caitlin and I met our first year living and working in Mammoth. When we first met, it was instant best friend sparks and when Rachel came down from Vancouver to visit, nothing but the same happened. Rachel was literally like a ray of sunshine. Always with a huge smile on her face. She had a gorgeous face. Fresh and bright surrounded by beautiful deep red hair. The girl was an image. Always full of energy. The time we spent together when she was here in Mammoth was nothing short of EPIC. She even came and helped me when I was working in the rental shop. The girl was a goof ball and that’s what seemed to keep everyone she came in contact with smiling.
Unfortunately, a lot of amazing smiles have an equal or greater dark side. This was the case for Rachel. She’d been suffering from depression for a little over a year and after moving to Montreal a few months ago, she past away. October 30th, 2009 was the last day this beautiful human being graced this earth.
Rachel, you will always be my #1. Ski the power filled heavens and know you are loved and missed.
To the Sharman Family, my love and prayers are with you. I’m sorry I can’t Physically send you my hugs of consolation, but know they exist.
R.I.P. Rachel #1 Sharman

see, amazing smile.
